History

Deopa are one of the five Panchpurviya . Panchpurviya are Five Clans namely: Deopa(Village Roba, Garkha Paspa), Serari (Village Sangor, Sorari Talli Malli), Puruchuda (Village Rundakot, Garkha Puruchudi), Chiral (Village Chhawati Chiral) and Paderu (Garkha Paderu) were known as Panch-purviyas. They were brought from Doti(at that time a part of kumaon) and settled in Kumaon by King Ratan Chand after granting them jagirs . These Five kind of Rajputs were relatives of the Chand kings and had matrimonial relations amongst each other. The Chand community comprises various different clans (subcaste) , and Deopa's are one of them.

Name Origin

Deo was also used as a suffix by both the Chands kings and Katyuris as well. Deopa's belong to Kumaon , and held close relations with the Chands rulers of Kumaon. They were granted jagirs by Raja Ratan Chand. The Chand community comprises various different clans, and Deopa's are one of them

Volunteer officers from the diving unit namely Lt. Arvind Singh and Lt. Shamsher Singh Deopa was sent to do what any Indian has never done before. They underwent the gruelling Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training programme where they emerged at the top. In February 1987, the Indian Marine Special Force (IMSF) officially came into existence and these officers were its first members
