Accordign to information online this surname means 'master', 'priest' and 'sir'. It originated from a minority group, called Arvanites, which was mainly living in the north west part of Greece. This group was a mixed race of Greek and Albanian origins, that was speaking a combination of the two languages and supported Christianity.

This is also still a mystery. A Greek Orthodox priest told me the name originated in Crete.
I found out name listed in three places in the Athens phone book online.

Famous People named Derezotes

David Derezotes was the oldest son of Nick and Ruth Derezotes (born 1951). His brief bio reports that "DrDave Derezotes is Professor Emeritus of Social Work and retired Director of the Peace and Conflict Studies (PCS) Program in the College of Humanities at the University of Utah (UofU). He has received many awards in teaching, service, and scholarship and has published 8 textbooks and numerous articles in such topics as community mental health, dialogue, and the climate crisis. Drdave currently provides consultation, teaching, and counseling in his private practice, including trainings for Valley Mental Health, Utah Probation Department, and the Daria Book Club. He also teaches in the Osher program, facilitates LCSW consultation groups, and is working on a new book project. Finally, DrDave can often be found bicycle commuting, playing music with the “Bald Eagles” or enjoying the desert where he loves to wander and wonder in the wild beauties of Utah." He has two children and a brother, all with the last name "Derezotes".
