According to Desha family researchers, the Desha family (whose surname may also be written DeSha, De' Sha, DeShay, Desha, Deshay, Deshaey, or Deshaw) may be traced back to France and perhaps to William the Conquerer. There is a French coat of arms with the name Desha attached to it.  Two well-known members of the Desha family are Joseph A. DeSha, who was Governor of Kentucky in the 1800's and Mary DeSha, one of the original three founders of the Daughters of The American Revolution.
