Carl Dischinger was my father. I am his daughter Patricia Vazquez. He was the hardest working animal and truck gardening farmer I know. He was kind of quiet, but when he felt like talking, I had the opportunity when I was working in the fields with him. He would always work with him every evening (me putting rubber bands around the dill bunches he would pull for the pickle sales at the Minneapolis Farmers Market. He grew every imaginable vegetable (except potatoes, as he said they grew better on sandy soil, and his soil was dark rich black soil on the farm). He was a kind and gentle man, and cared very much about farming and the vegetables also. His hobby was ice fishing, and his five children would alternate going ice fishing. He had a fish house set out on a lake near the farm. I use to love going with him. He lost both of his parent's when he was young, their names being George and Margaret Dischinger. He married my mother Leocadia Burg on December 27, 1944 (they were each age 31). They had five children in five years and two months. Their names are Richard, Loretta, Patricia, Philip and Karen. As he got older, he still continued to work hard, even though he had difficulty getting his breath, especially when loading and unloading his truck at the farmer's market in Minneapolis, MN. The Patnode's would help him do this then at the market. He died too young and I think of him and miss him very much. I wish my sons had gotten to know him; however, we didn't know his parents either, just saw their graves at Fletcher Cemetary (St. Walburga's Cemetary). I believe he's in charge of gardening in heaven, and has beautiful floral gardens too that he now has time for these types of gardens, him and my mother Leocadia. He could always predict when a bad storm was coming up when we were working in the fields in the summer. He knew what clouds would also produce hail, and one time told me, we were at a distance from seeing it, but he was standing by my side and said, look over there Patty, about 1 mile from here, there will be a tornado coming from those clouds in about 5 minutes. He predicted it happening that soon and it did; it wasn't on the ground that long, but destroyed a farm barn and their house. He would stop at the country club store in Robbinsdale and get cookies or candy to munch on his way the rest of the way home from the farmers' market, so he would be able to keep awake driving his big truck. I love you, my gentle Father Carl Dischinger.
