Aunty Florrie was one of the kindest people on this earth. She would give the coat off her back if she thought someone needed it. She loved family and adored it when she was surrender by her children and grandchildren. I moved to England and she used to cry after I visited , saying that ‘those wee boys ( my sons) should be living near their family. My Dad was very close to her.

Mabel was my grandmother. She lost her right hand when she was 14 and was working in a laundry. She used to wrap fabric around her stump and secure a crochet hook on the layers. She made the most beautiful lace and much more- including a dress for me when they were fashionable. During the depression her husband, Ezekiel, went to find work wherever he could. Granny Hoy made wonderful sweets / candies to sell to help support the family. She taught me how to make toffee apples. Very frightening to observe her chopping wood for the sticks with her one hand and a hatchet!

Albert Douey Jul 27, 1898 - Aug 1974 Belfast, Europe
Albert was my great uncle- brother of my grandmother, It was aMabel. He served in the 36th Ulster Division in Flanders. Two brothers and his father also served. He had a wife and family. He moved to New York and worked in a bank but was also an opera singer. He later spent several months every year in Belfast- staying with his younger sister Florence (Florrie) in the house in which he was born. He died in Belfast.
