Born in Dunedin New Zealand 1886. The family emigrated to Port Melbourne and Newport in Victoria Australia in 1903. William had two sisters Margaret and Alice both of whom settled in Newport while William lived at 11 Alfred St Port Melbourne. He served for many years, working on the dredges in Port Philip bay and after retiring he began working at the O.T Carboard factory in Ross st Port Melbourne. He was married to Lizzie who passed away in 1949. They had two sons William and Bert , the latter became a Christian brother whilst Will worked on the Port Melbourne piers as a "Wharfie" They adopted two girls Shirley and Joan and the family lived at the Alfred st home until it was sold by their Grandson early in the 2000's.
