William James Engbrecksen of Fort Lee, Bergen County, NJ was born on September 14, 1919, and died at age 91 years old on December 22, 2010.
Harold Engbrecksen was my uncle. My mother was, Gertrude Elizabeth Engbrecksen Holmes ( 6/20/1918-6/20/1979). Harold was her youngest brother. He was born in Hoboken, NJ. Harold's father was Olaf Engbrecksen and the mother was Theresa (Tessie) Moran Engbrecksen. From family information; My mother was the eldest of the four Engbrecksen children. She barely has a memory of him as he died in infancy. The Engbrecksen children were admitted to a Catholic orphanage as the mother just disappeared from their life and the father was only intermittently involved for a short time. Despite a brother searching for Olaf he was never located and it is felt that he may have perished and buried in a Potter's field somewhere. Tessie Moran Engbrecksen was never located. Unknown where the baby is buried. The surviving three Engbrecksen children were relocated and placed in the The Christian Orphan Home in Fort Lee, NJ where they happily resided (per, my mom and uncles) until they each aged out at 16 years to extend family, the children then resided with George Edwards and his wife, Jane Edwards They were all employed at the Glen Manor Sanitarium in Park Ridge, NJ until the young men entered the military and served during WWII. William was the recipient of the Silver Star and served from 1939-46. Andrew remained in the USA during the war as he was born with only one ear, but he never let that deformity hinder his life. Gertrude went on to marry at age 19 in Park Ridge, NJ George Edwards was a half-brother to Olaf Engbrecksen. No pictures were ever known to exist of these children until later years. William Engbrecksen (9-14-1919 to 12-22-2009 died at age 91 in Fort Lee, NJ. Andrew Engbrecksen (2-7-1921 to 10-2004). Died at age 83 in New City, NY.
