found any!The Hakes name originated in the Devonshire-
Cornwall area of the Dover Coast of England in the 1400's.It and it's accompanying coat of arms was granted because of their trade of fishing for the Hake
Cod.Also being fished off these shores,too.A model of the Hake cod hangs over the chambers in the Capital in Boston,Massachusetts as the important symbol for
the survival and prosperity of the state.First
Generation,Solomon Hakes born in county Devon, England
before 1686 and came to Westerly, Rhode Island where he got his rights of citizenship. At the next town
meeting he was accepted and granted 100 acres,he moved from Rhode Island to Stonington, New London
County, Connecticut; distance of 5 miles.Solomon
married Anna Billings from Stonington, Connecticut.
Her father-Ebenezer Billings-mother-Anna Comstock.
First,second,generation's were buried near Stonington
place called Milltown.Grandchildren moved to Peters-
burg, Rensselaer co.N.Y.our branch,Solomon and Anna
had four children, George,Mary, Jonathan,Solomon.
It was there children who movied to Petersburg,N.Y.
In the ninth generation born was my father Leon Edwin
Hakes,-mother-Lois Williams Hakes of Ithica N.Y.
children there are Gary,Karl,Marlene,Lillian,Leon,
Linda,Arlene,George,Robin.We are still looking for
more Hakes's and getting to meet them.
