Flail Family History & Genealogy

History

The first Flails in the US came here in 1837 or 1838 and they were two males, either brothers or cousins who settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Anyone named Flail in the US is related to those two individuals and came from the Pottsville area. My grandfather's name was Warren John Flail, born on October 14, 1887, and died on August 8, 1960. He was the oldest of 13 children and was born and raised in Pottsville (Schuylkill Haven, to be more precise). He left home at 13 to escape becoming a coal miner, and went to Philadelphia and got a job with a relative in the construction business. He married Edith Newcombe, an immigrant from Barnstable, England, where her family had owned a hotel, named the Colonial Hotel from 1066 through 1966, when they turned it over to the British Government. She arrived in Philadelphia, in 1913. They had 2 children, Edward Newcombe Flail, my father, and Mildred Edith Flail, both now deceased. My father married Doris Wade Arnold on September 20, 1941. I was born on November 5, my brother, Marshall Warren Flail, born on September 19, 1953, and our sister, Pamela Susan Flail was born on January 15, 1961. All are still living. I have one child, Edward N. Flail, III, born on December 17, 1984. Marshall has three children, Matthew Hallowell Flail, born November 3, 1987, and twins Kelsey Flail and
