I am Derek's sister. We grew up together. He was always a loner and got on my nerves a lot because I was a social butterfly. As we grew up and became adults, we found that we had more in common and began to talk more regularly. We both had children so we always tried to get together on holidays and events. We have very deep discussions at times and I miss his hugs the most. It is still very hard every day even after 5 years. He was my only sibling. I know he is much better in Heaven, because he never felt like he belonged on this earth. He taught me many things including to always do right to others, even if I disagree; give without thoughts of getting something in return; how to dye my hair blue and pierce my chin; and how to enjoy the small moments in life with the people I love. He is the only one who really knew me inside out. I feel very afraid in this world without him. When he gave me a hug, I felt safe and that everything would be o.k. I am devastated over the loss and haven't been able to put my life back together since he's been gone. But slowly, I am healing. I am glad he is no longer suffering in a world that he didn't feel he belonged in. I know we will be together again soon. God Bless all of you that have lost someone dear. Annie Barnes
