Adolphe Frezin was my step-father and and he was an amazing cellist. He graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels Belgium with highest honors at age 16 and immediately became the principal cellist with the Brussels National Symphony. He was a close friend of Queen Elizabeth (of Belgium) and occasionally played with her string quartet. She was a violinist. On several occasions, Albert Einstein played second violin with the quartet. He joined the Los Angeles based Paganini String Quartet around 1949 and toured the world and made many recordings with them on the RCA label. He was principal cellist with the New York Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 1956, principal cellist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in 1958, and principal cellist with the Cleveland Orchestra in 1960. he was professor of cello at the University of Texas, Austin for several years until being diagnosed with Parkinson's Desease which he eventually succumbed to in April, 1978.
