Updated Frichone Biographies

Steven J. Frichone, one of seven siblings, was born Sabbato Fricchione to Italian immigrants in New York City, and known informally to his friends and family when young as "Sammy". He later legally changed his name to Steven J. Frichone (A surname several of his siblings would also adopt). As a teen in the Great Depression, he served in the Civilian Conservation Core a.k.a. a "CCC camp" out west [A make-work program designed to separate young men far from their families) where he acquired his love for the outdoors and the West. He moved to California in the 1940's, and married Martina "Tina" Ferrari, to whom he remained married till his death. Uncle Steve was a kind, very easy-going man, who loved kids, but who never had any of his own, due to issues of abuse he had suffered as a child (He was afraid that he would continue the cycle- which was absurd- as all of his siblings had children, of which I am one- and we all had idyllic childhoods!) After retiring, Steve moved from southern California (Garden Grove) to the small town of Big Pine CA. in the Sierra-Nevadas, where he lived for approcimately 20 years until his death. He enjoyed home life and simple pursuits, such as walking and bowling; and liked visiting ghost towns and scenic places, such as Yosemite National Park- which was a few hours from where he lived.
