Dwight Eisenhouer recognizing his contributions. Many years after the war the city of Workum in NL developed a new neighborhood and named its streets after Sidney and other heroes like him. Sidney immigrated to Grand Rapids, MI America with his wife and 5 sons in 1949.
The daughter Lucy was later born in America.
Sidney never reached the success he had in the Netherlands, but then the main reason he made the move. Was to offer his Sons a better chance at success. And successfully they were.
Sidney worked at American Seating operating a Punch Press during the night shift. Dirung the day he had a small store at 237 Michigan St. Grand Rapids doing watch and clock repair. I don’t want to forget to mention the person that was our sponsor, meaning he guaranteed we would not be a burden on the US Government for 2 years. His name was
Louis Eerdmands. Sidney met him as he was traveling in the Netherlands, they made
acquaintance and Eerdmands agreed to be sponsor.
