Guenseth Family History & Genealogy
Guenseth Last Name History & Origin
AddSummary
The last name was Guenzett originally. Possibly Philippe or John Guenzett, I believe to be from Germany, but had to passport out of France to immigrate to USA. Not sure, but is possible as immigration was paid to proxy for a northerner as a substitute in the US civil war. Speculation. You got a ride to the USA and you fought for the north so a well to do northerner wouldn’t. He is buried at Bluff Hall Cemetary near Quincy Illinois.
History
See above. In Northern Africa there is a town named Guenzet. Close spelling. This is where the Berbers lived.
Name Origin
Germany. This is the language brought to America and the farm culture. After the civil war St. Louis Mo. and Quincy Il. had very large German populations. The name meaning is uncertain by me at this point.
