My father told us many stories of our grandfather Andrew Gustav Gustafson, when we were very young. He was born and raised in Sweden. He left his home at a very young age and moved to Russia. While he was in Russia he worked at a saw mill. The mill was a fairly open place and one night a mother bear happened in. She became caught up in some of the machinery and was killed. The next day they found the poor bear and also the cubs! The men in the saw mill would feed the cubs and they became friendly. A few weeks later one of the cubs met the same fate as its mother. This left only the one cub and Andy had become enamored of it. He would play with the cub on his way home from work. The bear started playing hide and seek with him. As he would walk down the road at night towards home the bear would hide behind a tree. As Andy came closer the bear would circle around the tree. Finally sneaking up on Andy. then the bear and Andy would wrestle!
