My grandmother, Blanche Hewlett Badger, was one heck of a lady. She raised 3 children, took in boarders and other children as well. When I was born, my mom was very young and so my Nanny took care of me. As long as I can remember, she was there for me. She was loving and attentive, caring, patient, affectionate and always took the time to listen to me. She never judged me or anyone else. All the kids in her neighborhood and in ours called her Nanny. It did not matter what color or nationality they were. She loved them all and they knew it.
She took the time to teach me how to pray and taught me about faith, which is still strong in me today. She loved all of her grandchildren and I really thought I was her favorite but later I found out we all thought we were her favorites. She was just that way! She was kind and giving. Her heart must have been the size of the state of Texas. It had to be to be able to fill all that love into one heart. When she died, she had 16 grandchildren and 13 ggrandchlldren and 2 gggrandchildren. She lived to be 82 and was still trying help any that she could. She made a tremendous impact in my life and I only hope I can be as good a Nana to my grandchildren as she was to me.
