As mentioned just above, it appears that Louis changed the last name from Holderread (its "Americanized" spelling) to Holderreed. The original name was Holderrieth under which my great, great, grandfather, Johann Friederich was born in Germany.

America circa 1830 and his sister Friderika and at least three other cousins also migrated to America. Olbronn is Friedierich Holderrieth's birth town but the Holderrieth's originally came from the town Schwaigern, Germany where a branch of the family entered the vocation of viticulture (grape/wine making). The earliest ancestor that I know of Friederich Holderrieth is Johann Jakob Holderrieth, circa 1688 to 1755 married to Anna Catharina Fauth born 1689. They had a son Johann Georg, born 30 Oct 1711, died 25 Jul 1759. He married Elizabetha Berchtold. One of their children is Johann George Holderrieth born 27 Sep 1737 who married Johanna Friderica Braun. They have a son Johann Jacob Holderrieth born 25 Mar 1765 who married Regina Elizabetha Fischer and these are the parents of Friederich. A descendant of the Schwaigern is Christoph Holderrieth who sailed for America in 1883 on the ship Werra who settled in Harris Co., Texas. A grandson, Don Holderrieth is among his descendants who congregated largely in Tomball, Texas. To my knowledge, theirs is the only branch who kept the spelling of Holderrieth.
