The name Hvegholm heralds back to the name of the ancestral farm land belonging to Jens Jensen. Upon his return from fighting in the Schlesvig Holstein War, Jen’s built the town church in Langskov, Denmark (it’s still there). As He settled back into his life on the farm, He decided to change his family surname.

Up until that period, Denmark was still using the patronymic naming convention for naming the children of Danish citizens. It worked like this:
If Jens had a son. And named him Edward.. His name would then be Edward Jensen (or Jen’s son) if Christian had a son and named him Anders… his name would then be Anders Christian’s Son (Christiansen) . Simple. Effective. And resulting in a huge over abundance of “sen” names in Demmark. So Jen’s Jensen, sick of all of this, adopted his Families lands title of Hvegholm as the new family surname. Jens Jensen was my great, great, great, great, great grandfather.
