Hurlimann, originally Hürlimann, also written Huerlimann. Family history began in Switzerland, in the canton of Appenzell. A farmer there had a characteristic little hill on his farmland. People called it the "hürli" and began associate the farmer with it, so after some time they called him the Hürlimann. Years later, family members settled in other cantons, Zürich in the "Oberland" and Zug, in the village Walchwil, while practically no Hürlimann remained in Appenzell. Today we recognize the two strains of Hürlimann, the ones coming from Zürich, the others coming from Walchwil, Zug.
