Jeanette Family History: Last Name Origin & Meaning

I was grew up in a small rural town called Logan in West Virginia. I was the only daughter born to Fred or Frederick (just found this out about my dad) Sheppard and Helen Ruth Walsh. I have one brother. My dad was a good hearted man, but he like most of his family the Sheppards they didn't take anything from others, and they were raised up hard and rough, which made them born fighters I am sorry to say. But they were gentle if you show them respect and did not try to pull something over on them. That was the worst thing another person could do, then it would be on. My dad liked his beer and he smoked. He died at a early age of 52. But this man was loved by all and mainly because what you saw was what you got. He was not a fake, and he didn't claim to be more than he was. He did not have much education but he was a good hand at playing poker. Oh well, he was my dad. I have been researching the Sheppard side of me for about 12 or more years. I can't say I have had alot of luck. Due to the lack of records and the use of the first name on some records or the middle name on others and not having the complete knowledge of these names of my family just like my dad's dad. I can't find the information if it is out there somewheres. I would love to have stories, photos anything to fill a picture of this family, this part of me for my children which are grown now and my grandchildren. Both my children and my grandchildren did not get to know this Paul Bunyan of a man who I am so proud to call my dad. This is my way of leting them know about him and how his life was in the generation that he was born and lived. I appreciate any and all answers or emails. I will answer each and every one I get. I am now disabled and I have time on my hands now and I have learned to use the computer a little better still make mistakes but better. Fred's was born on Jan 28, 1926 d.Nov 30, 1976 Parents were Lewis Sheppard b.10-02-1894 d.02-04-1950 married Bessie Ratliff or last name could be Pack b.04-29-1897 d.02-`7-1966. They had several children listed as follows, only one is still living and has very little information I will leave his name off the list.
