According to one branch of the Karhan family, the family originated in Turkey and the surname was originally "Kar han".  Some of the family went to the area of Germany/Czechoslavakia because of war over 100 years ago and ended up staying.  This was the beginning of the Karhan family in Germany.

History

The surname Karhan comes from Turkey and in Germany, "Karhan" is translated to "Der Große/der Mächtige". This Turkish name was originally  "Kar han" and refers to a great King  some hundred years ago in Turkey,  the story of the King of Mongoley. One branch of the Karhan family is from a town close to Frankfurt/Oder in Germany. Previously, this little town was in the Czech Republic but with the end of the war it became part of Germany. 150 years ago, there was a war between Turkey and Austria. The Karhan family stayed in the northern part of Germany/Czechoslovakia and don't go back home to Turkey. This began the story of the Karhan family in Germany.
