I knew Helen as Gran. My husband, Sean Patrick Karklus, was adopted by Helen and Anthony Karklus and raised as their son. He always called her Gran, and she let me call her that too. She always treated me like a daughter. We went shopping or to lunch or just visited at least 4 times a week, and we talked at least once every day. After Sean died, we visited even more. Every time she came to our house she brought a can of tuna for our cats. One of my favorite things about her was that she told me the same stories over and over lol. It was endearing. And she loved me. That was awesome! On the bad side of things, she went into a nursing home. She kept wanting me to take her to lunch, but I couldn't bear to tell her she was never going to be able to leave that place, so I told her that when they said it was okay, I would take her to Olive Garden. That just about broke my heart. Worse than that was the day she died. We had a blizzard and I couldn't get there to see her. The nurse called and told me she was dying, so I asked her to tell Gran that I love her and I'd see her as soon as I could. I will always remember how sweet and loving and caring she was. I'll see you in Heaven one day Gran. Until then, remember that I love you!
