It is believed that Luke and Nancy came from Spartanburg SC into Ga after the birth of his two children, by wagon train toward Towns County GA by 1855. This is where I find most descendants until the family stared to grow and move on with their families.
Luke Kimbree was a private in the infantry Battalion, Smith's Legion, Georgia Volunteers on September 27, 1862. Transferred to Company G, 65th Regiment Georgia Infantry, March 1863. Deserted at or near Knoxville, Tennessee on May 8, 1863. Returned to duty October 28, 1863.
This company was organized in May 1862 as Co G, Inf Battn., Smith's Legion, Ga. Vols. It became Co. G, 65th Regt. Ga. Inf., in March 1863.
The 65th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, began in May 1862 as the Infantry Battalion of Smith's Legion, Georgia Volunteers (also known as 'Georgia Partisan Rangers'). In March 1863, the Legion's Cavalry and Infantry Battalions were separated and each was increased to regimental size. The Cavalry Battalion became the 6th Regiment Georgia Cavalry and the Infantry Battalion, became the 65th Regiment Georgia Infantry Throughout their service, these regiments were assigned to the Army of Tennessee, CSA.
In checking the Towns County, GA census records 1860-1920, I find the Luke Kimbrell family listed in 1860 & 1870.
In 1860, the Luke Kimbrell household #333 consisted of Luke (30), Nancy (30), Perry (10), Martha (6), William (4) and Nancy (2). Judging from the children's birthplaces, it appears that the family moved to Towns County, GA from SC about 1855.
In 1870, the Luke Kimbrell household #342 consisted of Luke (38), Nancy M. (35), Martha (15), William J. (14), Nancy A. (12), Sarah J. (9), John (7), and Mary E. (1).
In 1880, the Luke Kimbell(56) household #56 in Hayesville District (64) Nancy M. (50) William J (19) farming, Nancy A (18), Sarah J (16), John (14), Mary E (8)
The last Record I have found of Luke Kimbrell is in the 1890 Hayesville Township in Clay County North Carolina Veterans Schedule.
Luke lived in Clay County in 1900 but by the 1910 cenus he had passed on leaving his 600 acres of land in Clay County to 6 of his children.
