Family changed spelling upon immigrating to America to make it sound more American. There was a huge family fued and so they divided and over time began to pronounce it differently
Name Origin
One of the oldest family lines existing today. It's origins are in ancient Anatolia, where existed the Kingdom of Kizzuwatna, a Hurrian state. This was where Kizirri, a Hurrian word meaning "building", which indicates an established family when used in a gens manner.
From there Kizirri become Kassia in Greek times, which then becomes the famed and very distinguished gens Cassi of Roman times, who's most famous member Cassius, was one of Julius Caesars assassins.
This follows a very old family and ethnic value system in which freedom was foremost even before life itself. Many coins were struck by the Cassi depicting the Goddess Libertas (Lady Liberty) with a person casting a ballot on the reverse. It was after the Gothic invasions of Rome that the Cassi returned to Asia Minor and later the Kizzir name appears in Armenian records until the Armenian Genocide, though families including the Kizzir with claims to the land had been persecuted many years previous and resulted in sporadic immigration to the US where the Tuscaloosa Kizzires took the name that is today used. Later, the Kizzir family who decided to stay were eventually forced by the ferocity of the Armenian Genocide to leave to the US. They settled in Iowa and from there, many went west while many remain in Iowa to this day.
Few can boast of such antiquity where a surname is concerned.
