History

The Kloszewski family history is very difficult to trace, most leads ending at the point of immigration to the USA. As it would seem, there was a breaking off of branches of the family in 1917. With a portion of the family anxious to escape the impending war and German aggression, and the other wanting to stay and wade through it, the previous moved to America. Settling in North East, Pennsylvania in 1919, they have adopted the name Kloss, though the elders still go by Kloszewski. The others moved later, with their young still bearing the family name. The town and provence of which the tribe originates is currently unknown. Name Origin

Kloszewski is a compound name in the Polish language. The prefix, "Kloszew", means that the family were farmers as Kloszew means "Hayseed" in ancient Polish. The popular "ski" suffix provides that the family is greatly skilled at what they do, meaning "King of" (or Duke of). Thus, Kloszewski means "Duke of Hayseed" or "King of Farmers."

Kloszewski is a Polish name, with almost all members being legally Polish and all being Polish by blood.  There is some variation of the Kloszewski family's legal country of origin, depending solely on the position of the Polish/German/Soviet border at the time of immigration. The Kloszewski family seems to have been greatly concentrated on the far Western border of Poland, and thus, as World War 1 began, the border shifted, changing the family's country to Germany. After the war, the name became legally Polish again. The same happened during the Second World War and the Soviet takeover.  Some American families bear the name Kloss, showing that their part of the family immigrated in the early 1910's or 20's, when the family was under German control.
