Lorraine Mae Hilbers was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Stanton County to Edward and Theresa “Helana” (Matthies) Hilbers. Lorraine’s mother died when Lorraine was 4 years old, so she, her older sister and younger brother were raised by their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mass, on a farm five miles south of Pilger. She was confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger in 1938. Lorraine attended Stanton County rural School District 14, and at the age of 13 completed her schooling at Cuming County Rural School District 56. In 1939, she moved to Carthage, S.D., with her uncle and aunt, and after a year she returned to Pilger and did house work for the Herman Willers family. During that time, she met Adolph Koehlmoos. Lorraine and Adolph Koehlmoos were married on July 6, 1942, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger. Lorraine followed Adolph to different camps during WWII while he served in the U.S. Army. The couple was engaged in farming on the original Koehlmoos homestead north of Pilger for 33 years. Upon Adolph’s retirement in 1982, the couple moved to their home in Pilger. Adolph passed away on April 26, 1997. In August of 1968, Lorraine began employment for the M.G. Waldbaum Co. of Wakefield, and in 1997 she retired after 29 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. In the fall of 2012, Lorraine entered into assisted living at the Stanton Care Center and since 2013, she had resided at the Burwell Community Memorial Health Center. Lorraine loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to travel and vacation with family. Lorraine enjoyed gardening, flowers, embroidery, cross-stitch, writing poetry, playing cards and games, and a very hot, very strong cup of coffee. She made beautiful Christmas ornaments with miniature nativity and other scenes from hollowed eggs. She was also able to turn out several varieties of pies in a short period of time. She often stated that her pie baking ability was because her aunt had her standing on a chair to reach the table or counter and rolling out pie crusts at 4 years of age. Lorraine would astound family and friends with her recitation of long poetry passages, rhymes and songs memorized since her country school days.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Arlene was born on April 3, 1927 on a farm near Pilger, Nebraska, the daughter of Henry and Lizzie (Dahlkoetter) Koehlmoos. Arlene belonged to the Eagles Club in South Sioux City, was also a honorary member of PTA in Emerson-Hubbard School. She enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren.
