The Krajnovichs were Serbian Orthodox border guards who were allowed to live along Catholic Croatia's southern border following the Ottoman Turk invasion of Serbia and Bosnia. The Krajina region of Croatia was populated by Serb refugees from the invasion. These refugees were allowed to settle there as long as they kept the Turks out of Croatia.
