Early Leftawes

These are the earliest records we have of the Leftawe family.

My name is Michelle Gordon and I was Omeya's supervisor at the North Carolina Central University School of Law Library. I really enjoyed talking and working with Omeya. He was a very positive, intelligent and very thoughful young man. Omeya was a great debater and there was never a dull moment with him around. I always knew he would be a fine attorney, because of his strong belief in justice, integrity, and wanting to right past wrongs for others, in particularly the underdogs. My friend Omeya was also a passionate, hard working law student and father who loved his young son. When he wasn't studying or spending time with his son, Omeya could be found at the Spice Bazaar or the Taiba Market buying samosas and juice. He really enjoyed samosas, goat curry and other halal dishes. Omeya often talked about his family and his home in Palestine and when he made his Hajj to Mecca with his Mom, be brought back a a prayer necklace for me. Although I am Buddhist, I use the necklace that Omeya gave me and it still hangs, where he put it on the cork board on my desk at work. Whenever, I look at the necklace, I think fondly of my friend and my memories of him.
