Name Origin
"Luton (Polish: Lutomiersk) is the oldest town of the former province of Sieradz, located on the left bank of Ner, near the estuary of the river of Boiling (Wrzaca). Archaeological studies have shown the continuity of settlement since ancient times. The oldest settlement came in the fourth period of the Bronze Age and was used by the people of the Lusatian culture, next to the second-fourth century, that of the Roman period. Lutomiersk was promoted to a town on April 24, 1274 by Leszek the Black, Duke of Sieradz. It is also the first evidence of the existence of the village, of known copy from 1615. King Wladyslaw the Elbow-high in 1292 adjoined village Wrzaca (Boiling) to the town, and in 1311 gave Lutomiersk to Wenceslaus of Lisowice from the Zaremba family lineage of Kalinowe. But soon at least part of the city he had to return to the royal estates, because in 1406 King Wladyslaw Jagiello gives half of Lutomiersk to the valiant knight named Przedbor and his son John of Chełmica for their bravery in the battles with the Teutonic Knights. From them two comes the Noble Family with Lutomierski vel Lutomirski as surname of the Jastrzębiec Clan (coat of arms)."
