History

Magioncalda is a very small village in northern Italy, in the provence of Alessandria, about 50 miles northeast of Genoa. Magioncalda means hot mansion in italian and is associated with the Knight's Templars as they called their temples hot mansions.  These were resting spots on their way to the Levant during the crusades, approximately 1100 - 1300 AD.  People from Magioncalda slowly spread towards Genoa and there are many in Liguria, particularly in Torriglia, Donetta, Neirone, Nervi, and Genoa.  These decendants generally spelled their name as Maggioncalda.  Starting about 1850 Magioncalda/Maggioncalda's started to immigrate to the USA, they primarily settled in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, and California.  There are also many Maggioncalda's in Chile and Argentina.
