While back home he worked on the building of the Grand Forks Air Base. Bob was an engineer putting in the missiles in North Dakota. He was an engineer for Richmond Engineering where he worked on the building of roads, water plant, Point Bridge.
For many years he owned and operated his own construction company in the Grand Forks area.
He married Darla Ann Hearn on January 21, 1966 in East Grand Forks, MN. They resided in Grand Forks, ND and raised 3 children. Daughter Tammy Mankie, Highland Ranch, CO, Todd Mankie, Grand Forks, ND, Troy Mankie, Watertown, SD.
