Bruno's first few yrs were not so bad, then his Mother re married when he was about 3, his step father did not like him (he had two sons of his own) so he made his life very hard he never had new cloths he had to have hand me downs from his step brothers and brother. He wore shoes made of cloth.
when he was about 5 his Mother sent him to live with his Grandmother on his Father's side, he became a difficult child as one could not wonder why, so after a few years his Grandmother sent him off to live with his Auntie. In between times he had fun with his brother they would go down to the mountains and play, but there wasn't many good times to speak of. After a year or two his Mother took him back home, but his step father still treated him badly would take the strap to him on many occassion for the least little thing that he would do wrong,Bruno was a good scholar always got good grades but was a bit of a scally wag at school, one day he decided he wasn't going to school any more so he burnt the school down (I think mainly to get attention), Bruno was sent to a boys home in Zadar Dalmacia best thing they could have done for him, as he learnt to play music while he was there(guitar)and started to learn the theatre (play acting), although he did try to run away one time, the home was on the Ocean, one night Bruno and his friend got in a canoe and off they went only to find when it got light that they had rowed themselves back to where they started.
Two years after he had gone to the boys home, his Uncle in Australia had arranged with his Mum to migrate Bruno to Australia. Bruno arrived in Fremantle Western Australia around about the 22nd of July 1956. After three weeks on the Ship "Australia"
travelling alone not knowing a soul, although I might add he new everyone on board by the time they docked in Fremantle or should I say they knew him !!!
Bruno wanted to start his new life going to school learning the English language as he did not know one word of English, but no his Uncle put him to work with no pay just his keep and a roof over his head.
His uncle was in the log felling and hauling business now you could imagine what hard yacker that was for a 14 year old lad.
Bruno's life was proving to be just as hard in this new country.
He stayed with his Uncle until he was 16 then went to live with his Grandparents on his mothers side, they lived in Midland W.A.and had a beach shack at Point Peron on the south coast of W.A.where they went for weekends.
Unfortunately for Bruno life was no easier there, they also put him to work with no pay.
After a year or so Bruno went to live with his Auntie Matilda (his Mother's sister)- who was a bit kinder to him, he went out and got himself a job and bought a car,so yes life for Bruno just started to get better from then on....
Memories of his early years left a lot of unhealed scars to this day.....
