The Kilmore Free Press. March 1910. The late Mrs. Barbara Ross, who died at Howe's Creek last month, at the age of 77 years, was a native of Syall, Ross shire, Scotland. She came to Victoria in 1851 and took up her abode at Kilmore, where she met her late husband and married him in the following year. Mr and Mrs. Ross followed farming pursuits near Kilmore, where six of their children were born, for about eleven years. They sold their farm and went to Mansfield district in 1863, and finally settled on the Delatite River in 1866, so Mrs. Ross was a colonist for 59 years and a resident of that district for 47 years.She was the mother of 8 sons and four daughters, ten of whom are still surviving, and who are well and favorably known in that district. Ross-Shire, historic county,Scottish Highlands. West Syall, Ardgay,Parish of Kincardine,Ross & Cromarty Old Gaelic book 1845. Inverness- George Ross, pensioner, Syal, parish of Kincardine, Ross-shire near River Carron, Wester Ross.Sutherland.
