Mainly founded around 1723 in the high glens of Scotland, just north of Glasgow, the clan MacNeish was started by Angus MacNeish. The first whereabouts of the clan in America, didn’t happen until 1859. Where William J McNiss came to America at just 15 years of age, for a new life after his parents had died back home in Scotland.

William was born in Bearsden, Scotland in 1844. He immigrated over to the United States in 1861 after leaving Scotland for a new life after the tragedy of his mother and father. Serving for the Union army in the civil war from 1862-1864 after being honorably discharged from a wound he had suffered in a skirmish in Tennessee. He would go back to Pennsylvania and marry in 1868. He would have only one son by the name of Brinton McNiss. He passed away in late 1900 from the flu.
