History

All persons with last name "Misita" originate from a village called "Misite," which existed previous to the arrival of the Slavic peoples (Baptismal records of the Misita Family, from a monastery there, date back to the 1200s). It is a mountainous region of the Western Balkans (or what in antiquity would have been called "Illyria" or "Greater Greece"). This name does not mean anything in Italian or Russian but is of an ancient dead (Illyrian) tribal language that is no longer in use. It is an ancient Illyrian tribal name, the meaning of which is unknown.

Commander Lt. Col. Venselin Misita The battle to Loznica was fought on 31 August 1941 between Chetniks and Germans in World War II. The Chetnik attack on the Germans in Loznica followed immediately after the German refusal to surrender. During these struggles was killed Chetnik commander Lt. Col. Veselin Misita, who led the attack on the Germans in Loznica.[1] After a one-day battle, the Germans were forced to surrender, the Chetniks captured 93 soldiers, who were the first German prisoners in occupied Europe.
