The Mlinac family is one of the old families of the Ogulin-Modrus Valley region (Ogulin, Ostarije, Josipdola, Zagorja Ogulinskog, and Modrusa) Modrus doesn`t exist in present time,but once long time ago use to be the main centar of the whole region that lies between the Adriatic coast and the capital Zagreb, very close to the Slovenian border. Along with other families. the first big movement of the Mlinac family happened beetween 16th and 17th century to borderline provinces between Austro- Hungarian Empire and Otoman Empire .By mid 18 centuary some of them are moving to Kanjisku Ivu beside Garesnica town The next major movement was during the 19th & 20th centuries to the Slavonian region of inland Croatia and also to America (in the communities of McKeesport and Duquesne, Pennsylvania near Pittsburg). Other Ogulin and Modrus settlers went to Kansas City and Akron, Ohio. More about this through this link:

Mlinac is a variation of the Croatian word Mlin or Mlinar which, when translated into English, means "Mill" or "Millman". Also, Mlinac in the Croatian language is a name for a grinder (figurative). Millmen used to work in a Mill milling corn (maze) and a wheat between grinding stones.
Posibly some of our ancestors have been involved in milling wheat and maze into a flour.
