Mpembe Family History & Genealogy

History

Firstly, we originate from the place called Mbo, in Democratic Republic of Congo. We speak tekela and our great great great parents then migrated to the eastern-southern downward migration and we settled in the Lebombo district in the 13th hundred. amaHlubi has been reigning as Kings since then and were seen as powerful and formidable nation in Africa.

Our first King was Chibi who reigned from 1300-1325. Mpembe was the 9th King of the amaHlubi according the genuine references that we have. Most of the tribes in South Africa traces their genealogy from amaMpembe. You find them all over South Africa today. Free State, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KZN and other parts of the country.

Mpembe is name of the Big tree that is only found in DRC, and that tree is called uThunga elikhulu, meaning (The Great Tree). Our totem is a Crocodile from the Nala River, which is called the Great Crocodile of the Nile.

Name Origin

Mpembe is the name of the great tree found in DRC, it is called uThunga elikhulu - meaning : The Great Tree! The Tree's leaves was used for medicine and NO nation was allowed to use the leaves of the tree nor chop it. The leaves were also used for rainmaking.

Nationality & Ethnicity

Our origin as I have put it earlier, is eMbo, Democratic Republic of Congo, however, we were then placed in South Africa due to the second downward migration of the 12th century led by King Chibi.

We are Hlubis not Zulus as it was mistakenly put by the colonial historians. Our kingdom was established in 1300 here in South Africa.
