The Orchanian name is believed to have first been known as Orchanoglu, but later adapted the Armenian “ian” suffix, opposed to the Turkish “oglu” suffix. The surname has been altered many times throughout the years due to language barriers and simple misspellings over generations. Orchanian records are usually difficult to trace and there are not many known Orchanians, due to the name being very uncommon.

Name Origin

Orchanian is believed to be a habitational surname, deriving from the word Orchan, the prior name of a village located in Turkey (former Ottoman Empire). The Orchan village seems to have left no trace in history, however, many Orchanians were originally from Marash (modern day Kahramanmaraş), Turkey.
