Roland Joseph Joachim Ordoyne is the son of Clovis Nicolas Ordoyne (1880-1946) and Angele Marie Ordogne (1886-1974). Born on March 20, 1919 in Thibodaux, Lafourche, Louisiana, USA, he grew up in a large family with siblings Harry, Gertrude, Blaise, Claude, Jeanne, David, Noah, Daisy, and Wilson Ordoyne.
On October 16, 1940, at the age of 21, Ordoyne registered for the draft in Mandeville, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. At the time, he was employed by the USCCC and he stood at 6 feet tall and weighed 133 pounds.
On March 17, 1941, Roland then enlisted in the United States Army at the Jacksonville Army Air Field in Florida. He entered as a Private in the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA.
