I'll re-add this section after I have asked again my father, Amanullah Ostowar, in mean while I'll say the following. The term is Dari / old Persian term with verious meanings. Among other it means power, force, strength. 'An ostowar' simply means a strong minded person who wont back down easily, but is wise. Ostowar has a very positive meaning and has been expressed to those who truly are great in character and there achievements.

Ostowars are originate from the Northen part of Afghanistan. It is Persian as it is an quite old Old Persian term which has been used a few times for more then a thousand years as a family name as it is the case in my family. My family is by the name itself Afghan and our ethnicity varies meanly Tajik & Pashtun.
