The Pitesa family country of origin is Croatia, about a dozen kilometers north of Traù (Trogir, Tragur), a small medieval fort on the Dalmatian coast. On the road up in the hills is a village called Prapatnica. A small hamlet, Pitesici, is a part of this village and the origin of the Pitesa family name came from this hamlet. Today the hamlet consists only of a group of houses with a small number of inhabitants which have survived the continuous emigration process started a couple of centuries back in history.  At least one branch of the Pitesa family is Croatian.
