Polstra is a Frisian surname originating from the area called Het Bildt in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. As with many typical Frisian surnames it ends with "stra," which is a contraction of the word "sitter," meaning dweller/inhabitant. "Pol" comes from an area of land called the "Polen" located between the Oudebildtdijk and the Koedijk, just outside the village of Oudebildtzijl, Friesland. In summary, it means "inhabitant of the Polen."
