History

I have been researching the Raethel Family History for a couple of years now. Our Raethel journey started in Prussia in 1810. Johann Gottlob Raethel was born in Ober, Silesia (now located in Poland). His mother was Anna Elisabeth. So far there is no name for Johann's Father. Johann Gottlob Raethel came to Australia in September 1844 and settled in Light Pass in South Australia, Australia. He was a farmer. Between 1844 and 1853, Johann met a lady called Anna Dorothea Elizabeth Geister and they had their first child Johann Friedrich. Johann and Anna married in 1854 near Tanunda. From there Johann and Anna had 9 children all up. One of the children had a last name of Raedel while the rest of the family had the last name of Raethel. Not sure why this happened. Johann Gottlob and the family went to the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Light Pass. In 1899 Johann Gottlob had pneumonia for 3 days and died. He is buried at the Cemetery behind the Immanuel Lutheran Church. His wife, Anna Dorothea died in 1903 and is buried at the same cemetery. From here the family expanded and started spreading out all over. Some family did stay in the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Some family moved to New Zealand and Tasmania. This is only a very brief story about my ancestors. There is just so much more information that would take too long to write it all down. I will be writing a book on the Raethels and hope to have it finished soon.
