Paul D. Restey was born on March 22, 1919, in Auburn, New York, to William Restey Sr. (1883-1953) and Sophia Rochsovich (1888-1956). He grew up with several siblings, including Mary, Catherine, Julia, William, Sophia, Peter, and Sam Restey, and spent most of his life in Auburn, where he worked as a machinist. In October 1942, Paul enlisted in the United States Army in Syracuse, New York. He joined the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA, and held the rank of Private. Following basic training, he was assigned to his duty station and served during World War II. After three years and one month of service, Paul was honorably discharged on November 20, 1945. Paul was married to Virginia M. Squires (1920-2019), and together they had several sons, including Peter G. Restey (1956-2019).
