Ancestors of Retkoceri originally were from a village called Retkocer in the municipality of Medvedja, Serbia.
They were native Albanian inhabitants of the village and belong to the tribe Krasniqi.
During the 1870s, their families were deported from that location and massacred.
Many displaced families from Retkocer placed in these areas of Kosovo such as Lipjan,Prishtina, Lupq i Poshtem,Sazli,Llugaxhi,Konjuh,Batllava,Ferizaj.
Many of them bear the surname Ratkoceri because the regime had attempted to further slavicise them.
