In the late medieval centuries an important man occurs in the Dutch national history. His name is “Ruychrock”. His background is not entirely clear and also the origin of his name is hidden in the dark. It is highly likely that his name is related to the type of clothes he was wearing: a “ruige rok” (“a rough skirt”). Nationality & Ethnicity

The country of origin of the Ruifrok family is The Netherlands. Originally, the name was spelled as Ruychrock or Ruijchrock. Most probably, the name was first used in the province of Zeeland. In the 17th century, some family members moved to Haarlem, about 10 miles to the west of Amsterdam (the same distance as today's Harlem in New York to downtown New York/New Amsterdam). Due to a misspelling in 1714 at the church, all Protestant members of the Ruijchrock family were named Ruijfrok or (later, as a variant) Ruifrok. It is well accepted that all persons named Ruijfrok or Ruifrok, are related to the Haarlem Ruijfrok families. At least one branch of the Ruifrok family are Netherlanders.
