The Savering name is mostly unique to Johnstown, Pennsylvania as it morphed there from the original German Name Severing.

History

The name was anglicized from "Severing" and the family began to adopt the spelling "Savering" although some held out as late as the 1940s and one brother, George, moved to Coraopolis, PA and kept the original spelling. For the families tracing their roots to the Johnstown Savering's: The name was documented to have changed from Severin to Severing in 1794 in the village of Kemnade (Bodenwerder), Germany. Prior to that the name was Severin in the town of Hajen, Germany.

Germany. The earliest family record is from the Hajen Lutheran Church in the town of Hajen, Germany. In June of 1765 Christian Severin, a drummer (Signal Corps) with the 8th Dragoon (Mounted Infantry Regiment) von Bock, under Prussian King Frederick the Great, married the youngest daughter of Hans Hagen. Her name was Sophie Amelia Hagen born in 1747 in Hajen. We have no record of Christian Severin's hometown.
