Schlappe Family History & Genealogy
Schlappe Last Name History & Origin
AddHistory
The original spelling was Schlaeppi. When Jacob and Rosetta Schlaeppi immigrated from the Swiss German part of Switzerland (may have been the Bern area) they went to Pine Island (Dodge County, Milton Township) Minnesota. They had 7 children, William, Adolph, Arnold, John, George, Louise, and Amelia. William, Adolph and Arnold changed the spelling of their last name because of another family who lived in the area with the same last name who were not of good reputation and they did not want to be associated with them. Therefore, three of the brothers changed the spelling of their last name from Schlaeppi to Schlappe. The rest of the family kept the old spelling of Schaeppi.
