My maternal grandfather was William Michael Schoppel, first generation German, born on February 11, 1895 in the United States. He passed away June 14, 1974 in Louisa, Virginia. My mother was born on February 23, 1930 in Charleston, South Carolina and named Virginia Barbara Schoppel. She passed away January 22, 2003 in Lanham, Maryland. Prior to marrying my father she switched her name around to Barbara Virginia Schoppel. I do not believe it was a legal change.

June 1932, William Michael Schoppel brought his wife Naomi York Schoppel and seven children from Charleston, South Carolina to Washington DC to participate in the Bonus March on Washington DC. The nine of them slept in a tent on the Mall.

We don’t believe she had it legally changed. At the age of 16 she married John Tambourine in Washington DC on May 22, 1946. John Tambourine was 20 years old at the time of their union. He was born on May 6, 1926 in Jeanette, Pennsylvania. They went on to have five children: John Thomas Tambourine born April 9, 1947; David Michael Tambourine born June 9, 1950; Richard Dominic Tambourine born October 10, 1951; Wayne Phillip Tambourine born March 16, 1954 - died April 15, 2002; Naomi Antoinette (Toni) Tambourine Ehlers born August 15, 1955.
