Harold was my maternal grandfather. He was married to the former Carrie Marie Carson, who preceded him in death, and the former Grace Jordan Cole, who survived him until her 2002 death. Harold was father to the following children: Donald (died in infancy), Byron, Ronald & Kenneth Schucker, Dorothy Dunlap Kabel & Ruth Condon, all deceased, as well as one living daughter, one living son & numerous descendants. Harold worked in many positions over the years, retiring from the Clearfield Machine Co. after many years of service as a tool & die maker/metal fabricator. Harold lived for many years with heart disease, having suffered numerous strokes through the years. He was an avid hunter/sportsman; his hobbies included guns, small game, deer & snake hunting. He would hunt rattlesnakes at camp - a very plentiful animal in the central Pa woods - & keep the rattles in his basement workshop at home, & we grandkids relished the shivers we felt when we'd see that collection of rattles. He was a naturalist & knew a tremendous amount about Pennsylvania plant & animal life. I sometimes picked his brain when needing information for school projects - such as identifying leaf collections -nin those pre-computer days. Harold built a hunting camp on ground leased from the state near Elliott Park & Parker Dam State Park. It is now being enjoyed by a fourth generation of our family. During World War II Harold enlisted, only to be sent home after the army was informed that he was needed to take care of his very ill wife & young children. Harold was an extremely intelligent man, with a wry sense of humor & artistic ability. I remember he'd make a mock-Hitler mustache by holding a Brazil nut above his curled up upper lip - in my opinion it was his up yours to that madman. He also used to flip his upper & lower lips inside out when we weren't looking - a freaky sight when it wasn't expected; he also used to entertain us & try to teach his grandchildren to make a clip/clop sound with our tongues. I've never heard it done by anyone else since. In his early adult years Harold was employed as a night watchman in central Pennsylvania at the Fulton Tunnel. Having no vehicle, it was necessary for him to walk back & forth to work every night, a 4+ mile walk each way; he also had to walk the tunnel all night long as watchman. My mother would tell the story of how her father brought home stacks of water logged paper rescued, I believe, from Kurtz Brothers School Supply factory after the Clearfield flood of 1940 swept through town. He knew my mom loved to write & draw, & that paper was so precious to my 6 year old mom & her depression era siblings, as was the fact that he salvaged it for them. She also liked to tell of how he would respond to her many episodes of clumsiness with the exclamation of "good giggledy God Dorothy!" - like when she'd stepped on a rusty nail - his interpretation of the use of expletives! Pap was machinery minded also. Mom would talk about the Model T car that they'd all pile into for their short trips around town - imagine 6, 7, 8 people in a Model T! That he constructed himself from discarded parts from broken down cars! Pap was a quiet man, who in his later years enjoyed sitting on his porch glider passing his final days listening to & watching his beloved Pennsylvania nature.

Grace was my mother's stepmother. She was a constant in our lives. After the death of my grandfather Grace shared most holidays with my mom, myself, & our immediate family. To my children she was their "Grandma Grace", just as she was to me, my siblings & my cousins. Grace outlived two of her 3 biological children, being predeceased by her son Ronald Cole & daughter Pat Cole Fischer. Her blended family included Byron, Ronald & Ken Schucker, & Dorothy Kabel & Ruth Condon, her deceased stepchildren; she is survived by 1 son & 1 stepdaughter, & many grandchildren. Grace worked as a cleaning woman for many years, most of those years for the same family. She founded our Schucker family yearly reunion at Parker Dam State Park, as an opportunity to give family members a chance to visit with her daughter Pat - who lived out of state - in the late 1960's or early 1970's. This was & still is a successful yearly event for our family. Grace was a faithful member of Kerr Addition United Methodist Church, & participated in various church groups (such as the United Methodist Women), as well as being a hard worker for various charity outreach programs of the church. Grace was sharp as a tack until the last year of her life, when serious illness began to take it's toll. She was able to do much of her own shopping (with the help of my mother & I), cook & do her own light housework up until that final illness. She came from hardy country stock, & was your typical strong, no nonsense, level headed Pennsylvania country woman. Grace happily lived within a 20 mile radius of her birthplace her entire life.
